Cocoteo FM in GTA VI? Why Fans Are Comparing It to Cacoteo Radio
Recent leaked development footage from Grand Theft Auto VI has put an unexpected name in front of Reggaeton fans: Cocoteo FM.
The station appears in leaked GTA VI radio material associated with Latin and Reggaeton music, including “Girl” by Puerto Rican artist Myke Towers. Almost immediately, people familiar with the Reggaeton scene began noticing something else.
The name sounds very familiar.
Cacoteo Radio Has Been Here Since 2007
Cacoteo Radio has operated online since 2007 as a dedicated 24/7 Reggaeton radio station.
Long before the current GTA VI conversation, Cacoteo was built as an actual radio operation — not simply an automated playlist or somebody streaming songs from a computer.
Over the years, the station has featured live DJs, scheduled weekly mix shows, artist interviews, exclusive music premieres, listener requests and programming rooted directly in Reggaeton and Latin urban culture.
Surviving Cacoteo archives document shows including the DJ Tito 420 Mixshow, DJ Calyte’s In The Lab, DJ Remy Sounds’ Planet Rush and DJ WorldBeat’s Global Fusions, along with interviews and appearances involving artists and figures from the Reggaeton movement.
Third-party Reggaeton websites also promoted Cacoteo interviews and live appearances during the early 2010s, providing an independent public record of the station’s presence in the culture years before GTA VI.
Cacoteo Radio has long described its role as that of the first dedicated 24/7 online Reggaeton station, distinguishing a full radio operation with DJs and original programming from the individual streams and hobby broadcasts that existed during the early internet-radio era.
Cacoteo Radio. Cocoteo FM.
That is why the comparison is getting attention.
Cacoteo Radio and Cocoteo FM differ by only one vowel.
But the similarity does not stop with the spelling.
Both names are attached to radio. Both occupy the Reggaeton and Latin urban lane. Both connect naturally with Caribbean culture, and the leaked Cocoteo FM material features music from Puerto Rican superstar Myke Towers.
That does not prove that Rockstar Games based Cocoteo FM on Cacoteo Radio.
But it makes the comparison understandable — particularly when the real-world Cacoteo Radio has been publicly operating in this exact cultural and musical space since 2007.
An Unexpected Discovery
Cacoteo Radio did not go looking for this story.
The connection came to our attention after someone familiar with the station saw the GTA VI material and reached out asking whether the leaked station was connected to Cacoteo.
That question led us to search for Cocoteo FM ourselves.
Within hours, social-media accounts were already appearing around the Cocoteo FM name as attention surrounding the leak grew.
Cacoteo Radio subsequently secured both Cacoteo.FM and Cocoteo.FM, which now point visitors back toward the established Cacoteo Radio brand and its history.
Coincidence, Reference or Homage?
At this time, Rockstar Games has not publicly confirmed that Cocoteo FM was inspired by, based on or intended as a parody of Cacoteo Radio.
We are not presenting speculation as confirmation.
What we can document is the history:
Cacoteo Radio has been broadcasting Reggaeton online since 2007.
It has hosted DJs, mix shows, artists, interviews and premieres.
It built a public presence across the Reggaeton community years before GTA VI.
And now, nearly two decades later, leaked material from one of the biggest entertainment properties in the world contains a Latin/Reggaeton radio station called Cocoteo FM.
People can draw their own conclusions.
For us, the focus remains the same as it has always been:
Reggaeton. The artists. The DJs. The culture. 24/7.
Cacoteo was here. And Cacoteo is still here.
Cacoteo Radio — Since 2007.
